The Canadian government insists the international
reconstruction effort in Haiti is making progress
six months after a devastating earthquake, amid
criticism that work on the ground is painfully
slow. Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence

saying the reconstruction project is a "monumental
task requiring a sustained effort and long-term

A Saskatchewan contingent of a group that has
been helping with the relief effort in Haiti returned
home Tuesday night. Members of Western
Canada Relief for Haiti spent the past few weeks
in the country, which was hit by a devastating
earthquake in January. They provided volunteer
support in a number of communities, working in
orphanages and helping to set up medical clinics.

felt in Saskatchewan Wednesday, as people who
are involved in adopting children from the country
or who are supporting Haitian community centres
frantically tried to get updates as well as organize

has adopted children from Haiti and has many friends

community is relatively small, with about 50 people

group heads to Haiti for relief effort CBC

A Regina man who wants to help rebuild Haiti is
on his way to the earthquake-ravaged nation. Carlos
Petit-Homme, who grew up in Haiti, boarded an
airplane Thursday, bound for a small community
south of Port-au-Prince. Petit-Homme has launched
a charity group, Western Canada Relief for Haiti,
and is going to the country to help people living
in tents find better homes before the rainy season
hits. Other members of the group will soon
be joining him, including Saskatchewan Roughrider
